Transcription: What is a scratch disk? To demonstrate this we'll choose file, preferences and scratch disks. A scratch disk is a hard disk that Photoshop uses as temporary RAM. For example when an operation on an image is too big for the RAM you've actually got on your machine it will use the hard disk space as temporary RAM and the scratch disk is the hard disk it uses for this very purpose.
